Guide to the Combination and Maintenance of Swivel Casters and Fixed Casters

Time:Jul 01,2025

I. Introduction to Swivel Casters and Fixed Casters

Swivel casters, with their unique 360-degree rotation structure, greatly facilitate the handling of objects. They allow objects to move easily in all directions, significantly improving work efficiency and greatly facilitating mobile operations. In contrast, fixed casters do not have this rotation function. However, in practical applications, swivel casters and fixed casters are often used together to achieve optimal mobility. For example, in the design of hand trucks, two fixed casters are usually equipped at the front, and two swivel casters are installed at the rear near the push handle. This combination ensures that the hand truck is more stable and easier to control during pushing.

II. Functional Characteristics of Swivel Casters

The selection of swivel casters is highly flexible, with a wide variety of materials, including PA, TPR, PVC, nylon, rubber, polyurethane, and PU. These different materials can meet various usage environment requirements. For example, nylon swivel casters have excellent high-temperature resistance and acid and alkali corrosion resistance, making them ideal for use in harsh environments. In addition, swivel casters come in a wide range of colors, with common colors including black, white, blue, gray, yellow, and red. These colors can be chosen according to different usage scenarios and personal preferences. It is worth mentioning that swivel casters can also be equipped with a braking function, forming brake swivel casters. Brake types are divided into side brake swivel casters and central brake swivel casters, and users can choose the appropriate braking method according to their actual needs.

III. Usage and Maintenance Points

(1) Importance and Methods of Lubrication and Maintenance

Regularly adding lubricating oil to swivel casters is the key to ensuring their long-term smooth operation. Lubricating oil can effectively reduce friction in parts such as the wheel axle, seal, and roller bearings, thereby enhancing rotational flexibility and extending the service life of the casters. When performing lubrication and maintenance, the lubricating grease should be evenly applied to the friction points of the wheel axle, seal, and roller bearings.

(2) Installation Precautions

1. When fixing swivel casters, ensure that their axles are in a straight line to ensure the stability and mobility of the casters.

2. If only using rotating swivel casters, ensure their consistency, ensuring that all rotating casters have the same specifications and performance to avoid uneven movement or equipment damage due to differences between casters.

3. If using fixed and rotating swivel casters together, all swivel casters must be compatible with each other, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation and use must be strictly followed to ensure the safety and reliability of the equipment.

By reasonably matching swivel casters and fixed casters, and using and maintaining them according to the above methods, the functions of the casters can be fully utilized, work efficiency can be improved, and the service life of the casters can be extended.
